I was able to realize my 2007 goal of averaging 20 mph at the Seagull Century (seat time was under 5 hours). It was the combination of the heart rate zones we established during your VO2 max test and following the fast century workout plan in Friel's book that did it. Also, when I installed aero bars in September, I lost room for my computer, so it meant that I trained the last 4 weeks with only a heart rate monitor, being aware only of zones and ride duration (not knowing speed or distance). I think this was also instrumental. It was a rough ride, with lots of time spent in 5a and 5b, but I didn't crack.
Thank you for helping me realize my goal.

HPC removes any doubt I have about my fitness and allows me to focus on actually racing. This resulted in over 10 consecutive top 10 finishes including 2 podiums and five 5th places in my 2006 race season.

Over the past few years I have tried a few coaches and different training programs with good results. But with the help of Hefler Performance Coaching, this year has been phenomenal. My results have surpassed all my expectations. Susan’s knowledge on how to have me prepared for every event, no matter what the type is truly remarkable. Incorporating cycling into a busy life that includes family and household obligations as well as a demanding career that requires periodic business travel is very challenging. But with Susan guiding my progress and her being there to assist with any situation that arises has made this the most rewarding experience of my life. The most amazing thing is the positive influence on my life that comes as a result of being a successful athlete. The new friends, the recognition for excellence in competition, and the overall feeling of peak fitness are unexpected benefits of working with Susan. And I know the best is yet to come.
